While researching for similar such tools, I came across Readium and thought of eliminating the idea of opening the article in incognito altogether, easing the UX. opening an incognito window and pasting the url there.Every time the article was blocked for me, I just copied the url and opened a new incognito window (you already know how to open an incognito window don’t you :P), and pasted the url.īut as a lazy guy I felt great efforts in The idea was just to open the article in incognito mode (in chrome browser). I realised that if I open the premium articles i.e those articles which required some charges, in incognito mode, I would be able to read it as a non-logged-in user. There are plans to implement direct filesystem access, and an experimental implementation is available in Chrome, but that functionality has not yet been fully standardized. I accidentally logged out from medium (don’t know how this happened :P), after some while I again opened the article via google search and boom, it opened without blocking me/asking me to upgrade. The open web can read single files that the user opens, but cannot retain access to those files, write to those files, or have any access to directories. The solution I found that worked meant adjusted some of Chrome’s settings. Though no one else had reported the issue with Readium, I did find information that allowed me to fix the issue and install the extension. 52 m on PC desktop, which is the current version (as of this post). It was very frustrating and I had no idea how to fix it, so I hit Google for an answer. Technically speaking, it is a set of (mostly chrome-less) modules developed using Electron.js, node.js and Typescript, which follows the Readium Architecture. When I tried to download the Readium extension on Chrome and install it on my desktop, I kept receiving an error message that said, “Package is invalid: ‘CRX_HEADER_INVALID’.” I am running I’m running Chrome. Readium Desktop is the software platform behind Thorium Reader. My one complaint was that I could not get the Readium Chrome extension to download properly on my desktop PC.ĭifficulty Downloading Readium Extension for Chrome I used Readium in a demos I did at PePcon 2012 in May and enjoyed using it on my laptop PC to preview sample EPUB 3.0 files. Each new version they release is better than the last, and Readium is close to supporting the entire EPUB 3.0 specification. I am a big fan of what the International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF) is creating with their Readium EPUB reader.
